The call to action has been made, with new proptech companies forming all the time and advanced digital systems offering property companies a way to vastly increase safety, efficiency, and operation costs; however, before these can be fully embraced and integrated into current construction, existing structures will need to be \u201cplugged in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Is-the-built-environment-ready-for-a-technology-takeover.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14747\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Is-the-built-environment-ready-for-a-technology-takeover.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Is-the-built-environment-ready-for-a-technology-takeover-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Importance of Open Data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>James Dearsley recently wrote&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateagenttoday.co.uk\/breaking-news\/2017\/6\/proptech-today-ukpa-rics-and-the-vital-need-for-open-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UKPA, RICS and the vital need for open data<\/a>&nbsp;as a call to arms for property companies of all types, but especially larger organizations, to begin sharing their data openly to increase the ability for the property field as a whole to progress. Dearsley writes, \u201cLarge or small, we need to give our data away. It\u2019s how the industry will mature and grow with confidence and precision.\u201d However, this data cannot be effectively utilized and this vision not realized until it has a digital platform on which to flourish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the suggestion of a shared digital platform is a tall order from where most property specializations currently stand, which is why the expedient adoption of proptech is more important than ever. Before we can get our buildings to digitally speak to one another &#8211; thus creating a smart city &#8211; property companies need to integrate digital solutions into their working models. Before property walks the walks, it\u2019s got to talk the talk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Need for Proptech in Smart Cities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential benefits of proptech in smart cities abound. During the design phase computers can analyze vast amounts of data to locate structural or compliance issues and correct them even before construction has been scheduled. When interconnectivity of buildings is a reality, monitoring of operating costs will lower the running costs of buildings by optimizing specific functions for which certain buildings are used. Safety will be enhanced to a level never before seen, allowing diagnosis of problems and effecting repair well before a catastrophe occurs. Even machine learning can be enabled among a network of buildings, making operational enhancements happen instantly and constantly providing cost savings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>There is no lack of proptech options on the market \u2013 they avail in every niche of property and the built environment. In the July\/August 2017 edition of&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rics.org\/uk\/news\/journals\/property-journal\" target=\"_blank\">RICS Property Journal<\/a>&nbsp;Shelby Green discusses how laser scanning can map existing structures and translate them into BIM models, recognizing that there was a \u201c[UK] government mandate requiring all centrally procured projects to be completed to BIM Level 2 from 2016.\u201d Imfuna\u2019s mobile inspection app allows estate\/letting agents, surveyors, and construction professionals document the state of a building in real time, backup data to the cloud, and produce comparison reports to evidence changes in structures over time. And in the March\/April 2017&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rics.org\/uk\/news\/journals\/property-journal\" target=\"_blank\">RICS Property Journal<\/a>&nbsp;Chris Hoar provides an array of artificial intelligence (AI) areas that are poised to bring the smart city to fruition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/The-city-of-tomorrow-means-interconnectivity.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/The-city-of-tomorrow-means-interconnectivity.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/The-city-of-tomorrow-means-interconnectivity-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>There is no lack of proptech options on the market \u2013 they avail in every niche of property and the built environment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this plethora of options, proptech\u2019s benefits will not truly be felt until there is widespread adoption, and that needs to start now. While specifically referencing BIM, but reflecting the sentiment of a wide range of proptech companies, Peter Caplehorn writes in the June\/July 2017&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rics.org\/uk\/news\/journals\/building-control-journal\">RICS Building Control Journal<\/a>&nbsp;that \u201cBIM\u2019s full potential will only be realized when all parts of the profession are operating on a comprehensive and coordinated digital platform.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imfuna.com\/time-proptech-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">We\u2019ve said before<\/a>&nbsp;that 2017 will be the year of proptech, and we\u2019ll continue to evangelize the benefits of proptech. Imfuna believes proptech has immense benefits to offer the built environment &#8211; and we\u2019re not just talking about our own property inspection apps. But will adoption take place sooner, rather than later?
